LYndon B Johnson Historical National Park

Stonewall, Texas

"The Texas White House" during Lyndon Johnson's time in office 1963 to 1969.

I took a day tour to the hill country outside San Antonio while I was there.
The weather was overcast and cloudy all day so not a great day for photography, but at least it didn't rain.
We visited the grounds of the LBJ Ranch. The house is 100 years old and in fragile condition so it has been closed for a few years to visiting the interior. You can see there are missing shutters on the exterior.
While the house was donated to the National Park Service in 1972,Lady Bird Johnson continued to live there part time until her death in 2007.

I regret I didn't have a wide angle lens with me. The house was added onto over the years so it's quite large. There is a wall where I was standing.

I'm really surprised it isn't restored or at least in a lot better condition. I bet it would look outstanding later in the year once everything greened up or as Lynn noted with wildflowers. ~BV~

Interesting image and information. It is a shame that the house hasn't been maintained.

A neat piece of recent history. It looks like it had plenty of room for the famous couple. The lawn could use a little work though.

that's a funky alternative to the big pile in DC...without a wide angle you still caught enough of the place to show it's character and extent..

If you'd visited a month later, the whole area would have wildflowers galore! V

Fine shot of his old house, and a pity it hasn't been kept up very well. V.
