Our son, who lived in Taiwan for a bit over two years, thought it would be fun to make authentic sesame buns, so we did. This involved making the sweet sesame paste from the black sesame seeds he brought back from Taiwan, making the dough, and steaming the buns. We were so eager to eat them that we removed three from the steamer before I could take pictures, but these are the remaining three. They were delicious. And, he said, pretty authentic (he ate a lot of different steamed buns during his time in Taiwan). And, in case you're wondering about the title, apparently the word in Mandarin for "bun" is the same as the word for "hug". I think the idea is that the dough hugs the filling.
