Two images of the young Cooper's Hawk perched on top of my feeder support whilst a small Red Squirrel unperturbed continues foraging for dropped seeds on the ground. Sometimes, the Hawk would look right down at the feeding Squirrels (both Reds and Blacks), but, to my knowledge, it never attempted to catch one for lunch. It seemed only interested in the small birds frequenting the feeders, but of course they had mostly scattered and hidden. Occasionally a Chickadee was brave enough to swoop in and grab a seed. The Hawk didn't seem to care for Chickadees either. I only saw it catch some House Sparrows whose numbers have drastically shrunk in the past two weeks.
