The Waywardness of the Wind

Boulder, CO

A few weeks ago, we had some very high winds (which resulted in destructive wildfires). These metal chairs on our back patio were blown over (and stayed like that until yesterday, when we used them for the first time in a month), but the much lighter plastic table stayed upright. Go figure.

You two will find this a fun read.

I pronounce it aluminium. :) You should also hear how I still pronounce 'basil', 'oregano', and 'herb' (it's got an 'h' in it!). As for referring to what I put in my car, it's about 60-40 petrol versus gas. The next car I get will probably be electric, so I won't face that choice anymore. But we tend to drive our cars into the ground, so it might be at least five, and maybe ten, years before we replace our trusty Ford Edge with a shiny electric futuristic marvel, that will probably drive itself (and fly, please make it fly).

More importantly after 38 years how do you pronounce Aluminum? Paul

The chairs are pretty light. I think they're aluminium (sorry, even after 38 years in the US, I can't bring myself to leave the second 'i' off). They're certainly cheap.

There's definitely some physics at work there.

Is there such a thing as cheap wrought iron? Maybe at a garage sale.

They look to be wrought iron and if so which would surprise me that they went over. The ones we had weighed a ton. Paul

Are those chair aluminium? I wonder whether the table possesses superior aerodynamics.

Thanks Traveller. No, the legs weren't broken. They've always looked like this. It's just cheap patio furniture that we've had for years. I'll probably post another shot soon of them and the table with the 14 inches of snow we've just had. The way things look outside right now, it's all pretty monochrome.

I like it...I think this was your original intent. (were the chair legs actually broken?) Traveller

You're quite right Traveller. I noticed that too late. It's the cover to our propane tank. I've taken a shot at cloning it out, and replaced it. It's not great, but maybe better than the original. The problem was that the shadow of one of the chair legs was on the cover, so just cloning out the whole cover would cut off the shadow.

I don't want you to think I am being bad...but sometimes we don't see extraneous things lying around in our frames when we shoot...this has the potential to be a very excellent image....with meaning....had you just removed the circular thingy on the right side of the image....I suppose you could use a healing replacement tool to effect this. but....I just really like this except for that...empty chairs looking out over the melting snow!
