The Wheelchair Access to the Beach

Hermosa Beach, California

For the longest time, I wondered what this was for, then I read in the local paper that it was for Wheelchair access to the beach.
While certainly admirable, it would seem that they could only go to the end of this ramp and just sit there. Right now, with the berms that are erected every winter, they wouldn't be able to even see the ocean. I frequently walk along the Strand and I have yet to see any wheelchair person using this. Hopefully some of them do. Maybe best in the Spring after the berms are removed.
Last Saturday, we had a Tsunami warning along the coast. Undeterred, my friends and I met for our
usual Saturday morning breakfast at a restaurant just yards from the ocean.

I have never seen anything like this on a beach in the UK. A great idea, every beach should have one! I cannot imagine a wheelchair being the easiest to push or push on their own in the sand. Great shot, Charlene.V

It does lead to nowhere but it's an admirable effort....love the perspective in this fine shot...V

Cool shot. Looks kind of surreal.
They have these at some beaches here. Makes no sense to me. Never seen anyone in a wheelchair use them.

Nice beach image we also have these mats for the handicap also good for getting the sand off your feet before you hit the board walk.
A very expansive to accommodate quite a few people.
Sharp image .

We have those here as well. It is used by the wheelchair bound surfers to get closer to the beach so their buddies can help them into the waves where they ride laying on their board.

A strange sight and I'm glad that the warning didn't cause you to have your morning coffee diluted.

I guess at least they get a view of people on the beach!

looks like a landing place for some small plane.V.

so not a landing strip for drones then....it's a good idea to make the beach accessible for all....perhaps folks with mobility issues could just go part way, then find a spot to stop and enjoy the view..

It really does appear to be a road to nowhere :( Perhaps someone will come up with a plan to make a pleasant place to view the ocean, etc.

Interesting, it's a start! Re tsunami warnings, it might be a good idea to be deterred.

An interesting sight. I guess the idea was admirable, but perhaps not so practical. V.

Double line. No passing zone on the way down! :) Nice lead-in. Like the wide view! V
