- Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) by Jean Cardot (1930-2020) -

Statue in honor of Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), who was United States Minister Plenipotentiary in France from May 1785 to September 1789, third President of the United States from 1801 to 1809, and one of the most Eminent Founding Fathers, was inaugurated on July 4, 2006, the 230th anniversary of the Independence of the United States.

The bronze statue, the work of the French sculptor, Jean Cardot (1930-2020), stands very close to the Hôtel de Salm, which Jefferson particularly liked, and which was one of the inspirations for his residence in Monticello, in Virginia. Jefferson is thus represented holding a feather in his right hand and a plan of Monticello in his left hand.

La statue en l’honneur de Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), qui fut Ministre plénipotentiaire des États-Unis en France de mai 1785 à septembre 1789, troisième Président des États-Unis, de 1801 à 1809, et l’un des plus éminents Pères Fondateurs, fut inaugurée le 4 juillet 2006, jour du 230e anniversaire de l’Indépendance des États-Unis.

La statue en bronze, oeuvre du sculpteur français, Jean Cardot (1930-2020), se dresse tout prêt de l’Hôtel de Salm, que Jefferson affectionnait tout particulièrement, et qui fut l’une des inspirations pour sa résidence de Monticello, en Virginie. Jefferson est ainsi représenté tenant une plume dans la main droite et un plan de Monticello dans la main gauche.
