Nollaig na mBan

Today is known as Nollaig na mBan or the Women's Christmas in Ireland.
Tradition was that the woman of the house got a day off from cooking.
More recently it was a day when women would have got together and gone out for a meal.
It also marks the Twelfth Night and in some places is known as the Feast of the Epiphany or the Feast of the Three Kings.
Many people regard it as the day when the Christmas decorations should come down, but as I'm supposed to be taking it easy, I am going to enjoy them for another day!

Very nice shot of this ornament. I like the textures and background. "V"
Where I am from, Cologne Germany, they used to celebrate Three King's Day with a parade where they carry the bones of the Three Kings which are stored in Cologne Cathedral. Not sure if they still do this.

What a lovely decoration and I love the idea of a Women's Christmas. We do so much over the regular Christmas, we need a break. :) V
