Saltoun is a location that crops up over and over again in my Family Tree,
the home village of my ancestors the Tofts family.
I was astonished to discover a few days ago that three of them emigrated to
the USA in the 1850's and fought with the Union Army at the Battle of Bull Run in 1861.
All three survived but sadly brothers John and Robert Tofts were killed the following
year at the Battle of Secessionville in South Carolina.
