While reading Time Magazine the other day I came across a list of the best Podcasts of 2021, among them “The Just Enough Family”. Reading its description I learned that the lead character was a classmate of mine when I was a student at Winthrop Junior High School (P.S. 232) in Brooklyn, New York.
As I recall he was always dressed to the nines and had an air of success about him. I learned during the podcast that when he was 10 he read the Wall Street Journal from cover to cover. His name was Saul Steinberg and he was the founder of Leasco and a corporate raider who had a very unfortunate later life.
Another classmate was Emily Jane Goodman, who was a New York State Supreme Court Justice, whose focus was on civil rights and women’s issues.
And moi, my fame comes from the fact that I was the shortest student in the graduating class.
Saul Steinberg is in the third row, sixth from the left.
Emily Jane Goodman is the last person on the right of the first row.
You should be able to figure out who I am.
