Valles Caldera National Preserve, New Mexico
Fourteen miles across, this caldera is said to be the source of the volcanic ash that, over time, became compacted into tuff
and was used to form the cliff houses in what is now Bandelier National Monument and Preserve. The caldera's edge
is a 10-mile drive from the Monument, and isn't actually part of it, but I am showing it in Bandelier's gallery
because it explains how people used what this caldera produced.
