A new way of life?

I’ve read in the news about people in some parts of the country protesting any kind of mask mandate, or even a request to wear a mask, so I’m simply amazed whenever I go into a supermarket here in the District or across the river in Virginia and see pretty much everybody in the store masked up. There used to be a mandate in DC, which ended last week, yet people still don a mask as a matter of habit now, and I’ve never seen or heard of unhappy customers screaming at guards or attacking clerks because they feel their “rights” are being violated. People seem to have adopted masking as a way of life here, at least for the time being, and I for one am happy they have.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

Good that you live in an oasis of civilization.

These are really nice, colorful masks! V

A wonderful reminder of the uncertain
times we live in.
victorswan02-Dec-2021 11:14
these colorful mouth-nose caps may not be cozy but they are a real protection in this long-running pandemic, and hopefully we will be rid of it soon, but then there will have to be more vaccinations and especially a lot of common sense and willingness to stop it. very nice image Helen BV

Love the colorful masks. I have to wear one at work except in my own office, I don’t why everything has to be so political, especially caring for others. V
Ursula Miller01-Dec-2021 14:05
A great colorful collection of masks. They will stay for a long time with us, I suppose. V

Great colorful masks, Helen! V

That's colourful protection, quite an enhancement. However, I sincerely hope they do not represent a new way of life. But I quite agree that the objections have been absurd - you can't even call them selfish because it is themselves as well as others that they were risking. Having said that, we've been extraordinarily lucky here in my home area, with the only mask mandate lasting about one week because we've had so few cases here. It might not stay that way ...

I'll take the one with cows :). It was the same with seat belts - do you remember the fuss some people made !! Fun shot V
Nirvan Hope01-Dec-2021 03:44
Perhaps people would feel better about wearing masks if they were all as colorful as these!
Hank Vander Velde01-Dec-2021 01:56
Nice colorful image. Good to hear people are wearing their masks.

I thought those were colorful hats until I read the caption.

A beautiful collection and a caring statement for your family, friends and neighbours. Wearing a mask shows you care about yourself and everyone else too.

Colorful find. Such a simple act to help prevent illness.

Love the colors on these masks. Nice shot.

That's a lovely mask selection, a definite improvement over the clinical blue style. I think they're going to be with us for a while so we should make the best of it. I just wear a plain black mask but then I'm no fashionista. :-) I just like to enjoy and promote good health.

That's a nice collection of. our new 'must have' accessories.
People are supposed to wear masks indoors in shops, public buildings, public transport and schools, with primary aged kids over 9 having to wear them. Most people do although there is a vocal minority who complain. I really don't understand those that wear their masks under their noses - is it ignorance or disobedience?

A fun collection of fashion conscious masks and it makes a neat still life. Here in San Diego County the mask mandate was lifted some time ago and it is a real mixture of folks wearing them and not. One place where they are required though is in the schools and I am so glad about that. Our grandson hasn't brought home even a cold so far whereas other years there would have been 2 or 3 by now. Masking is still a powerful way to protect ourselves from the virus and they are their utility is not affected by viral mutations.

Still a mask mandate here and I think many of us will still be masking even when (if) it is lifted (not for some months yet). Why not, not a big deal. Love your shot. V

Good to hear!
globalgadabout30-Nov-2021 18:08
a pretty assortment that would surely lighten up the experience of mask wearing...the naysayers and short-sighted egotists likely can't grasp the bigger picture, and don't care about the wider good..

Beautiful mask and colors Helen V

Living in a mostly Asian populated city like I do, many wore masks long before the pandemic ever started. It's just considerate to others. So, despite being in Texas, most here in Sugar Land wear masks. The ones in your picture are gorgeous. V
Pierre Martin30-Nov-2021 14:31
very few are against here, they look beautiful those masks!

Our response to the pandemic so far has been a sad commentary on the human condition today. Happy to hear that people are masking in DC. Hopefully the vaccination rates are also high.
janescottcumming30-Nov-2021 12:39
Love the cow one! Yes when we were in DC I was happy to see how many people had their masks on. We are doing ok with it up here but now as good as DC. V

A way of life here in Quebec City as well, other than restaurants etc., people wear masks pretty much everywhere in public. Protect yourselves and others.
Philip P30-Nov-2021 09:56
It's a great sign of social responsibility and caring for others!
danad30-Nov-2021 09:18
To complete François' comment the protesters were less than 30000 these last weeks. Here in Brittany most of the people still wear the mask....
But surely it will be a new way of life with the emergence of new variants (like omicron now).

In France, people demonstrate every week against the health pass or against vaccination, claiming an infringement of freedoms. As I walk through the streets of Blois, I see that almost half of people do not wear it, although it has become mandatory, as in almost all cities in France. It is provocation or unconsciousness.
Beautiful colorful masks.. V

Such colorful masks. People need to wake up to realize that rights don’t matter during a pandemic. Be a citizen first! V

I think it is going to be a way of life for a while...I think it is easy to get use to, especially with these fun masks and they do keep the face warm in the winter. V
