cannonball fungi (Sphaerobolus stellatus)

Lavigne Natural Park

About 2-3mm across and growing on wood chips, these are hard to photograph well without proper macro lens. But they are interesting little fungi, given the name cannonball because they eject, with some force, the sacs containing spores (the brown stuff in the cups) which are sticky and adhere to surfaces a few feet from their base, enabling the fungi to spread.
