Not as Good 2021

as I remembered...

***************
In the past, I've always loved Mrs Prindables caramel and chocolate covered apples. That's why I was very happy when my husband treated me to this $35 "giant" apple. Although horribly expensive, these special apples have always been worth the price in the past. Despite the company's using Granny Smith apples for their less expensive products, they used to use 'Delicious' apples for their oversized treat. Plus tons of caramel before layering on the most delicious chocolate and lots of nuts.

Well in 2021, the giant apple is actually now a smaller and tarter 'Granny Smith' apple (like their less expensive products). Plus the caramel layer is barely noticeable. To make matter even worse, the taste of the chocolate itself has totally changed. Oh well. Despite the apple being smaller and not as sweet (and the chocolate and caramel coating being only half as thick & not as tasty), some of the nuts seem to still be there. But not quite as many.

When comparing this to the same product in the past, I was disappointed. But at this point in a pandemic world, I was still happy to be able to get this treat - even if it is 'not as good' as it used to be.

We won't be buying another Giant Apple that is no better than their regular ones. Actually, IMO, this 'deluxe apple' wasn't even as good as their 'regular' apples used to be... https://pbase.com/britestar/image/120804542
You can buy 6 regular candy apples for the same price as the deluxe one above.
Maybe we will try that for Christmas.
I'm still chasing a dream from the past.

Info on this Apple:

"Go nuts with this extra fancy apple.
Dipped by hand in rich caramel, it's rolled in premium pecans and walnuts, then smothered in milk chocolate for a colossal classic.
From Mrs. Prindable's. Serves 8 to 10"

We got 4 servings from the apple; not 10... For 10 servings, the serving size would have to be a 1/2 inch thick slice; not an 1 1/4 inch one. This 'colossal apple' is not very big. But it did come in a pretty purple box: https://pbase.com/britestar/image/172049553
