O is for Ornamental

This has been growing in our backyard for well over 30 years. It is propped up to hold it's weight as it is massive.
The Bougainvillia is classed as an ornamental tree or vine and often the purple bracts are thought of as flowers which they are in fact not.
The flowers are 3 tiny waxy ones in the middle of the bracts.

This is a subject to love!
It dominates the scene in such a beautiful way and dominates my feelings as well.

My 35 year old orange Bougainvillea was killed in our bad freeze last Feb. I was so sad. But luckily I was able to find another orange after some looking around. Your purple is very pretty!

It's a beautiful vine! I hear they have thorns and not fun to prune. (?)
But they are definitely ornamental. V
