One of the major archaeoligical sites in Siwa is the Oracle Temple of Amun. This is where Alexander the Great came in 332 BC to the oracle of Amun for proof that he was the son of Amun and the Pharoah. I guess he got what he wanted. There were still parts of the temple where you could see the carvings. We went on to visit the Temple of Um Uveydah and Cleopatra's pool, a nice spring where people were swimming. BTW - Cleopatra never went to Siwa.
After lunch back at the hotel, we returned to town and climbed the Shali Fortress, a 12th century AD structure. We got a nice view of the area from the top. Near sundown we went to a nice spot to watch the sunset. Wine helped. It was fun. Finally, another memorable dinner at the hotel.
Today's photo is of the Oracle Temple of Amun. Alexander the Great stood here 2353 years ago.
