The first bell was delivered from England in 1752. That bell cracked on the first test ring. Local metalworkers John Pass and John Stow
melted down that bell and cast a new one in 1753 here in Philadelphia. This one also developed a crack but was repaired.
The wide "crack" in the Liberty Bell is actually the repair job.
