A drive-by shot.
At 1402 Broadway in Galveston, it was built for attorney and legislator Walter Gresham between 1887 and 1893. The home has 19,082 square feet.
The Catholic Diocese of Galveston-Houston bought the house in 1923, and for many years it served as the seat of the local bishop.
Bishop's Palace is now owned by the Galveston Historical Foundation, and open for tours.
An ornate delight of colored stone, intricately carved ornaments, rare woods, stained-glass windows, bronze dragons
and other sculptures, luxury materials and furnishings, and impressive fireplaces from around the world (including one lined with pure silver!)
it is Galveston’s grandest and best-known building. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
