canny

Kilby

canny Scots-Canadian William Macdonald made a fortune when the US Civil War broke out. He shipped tobacco leaves from the South to his Montreal factory, and sold the processed leaves to smoke starved pipe afficionados in Northern states.
Macdonald seems to have understood targeted advertising too. When his company began producing tobacco for roll-your-own cigs, among the brands were Brier, appealing to Curling fans, and Daily Double, doubtless a safe bet for horse racing punters

One tends to forget what an important crop tobacco was in the past to the U.S. and to Canada. A neat shot of all these tins.

Nice assortment, some of these are probably quite valuable. I remember buying Drum tobacco in tins in the mid 70's.
