A Sad Day a Moonlight Beach

The last time I shot the flag at Moonlight Beach at half staff was on Memorial Day. I didn't think I would be photographing that scene again so soon. Nine local Marines and one local Navy Corpsman were among the dead due to the attack outside Kabul Airport.

Very sad. Surprising so many were from the same area.

Such a sad situation. A fitting mood and tribute to the lives lost.

This tears my heart out! Such a powerful image.
I feel so terrible for these families.
The Marines lead the way and I honor them for their self sacrificial hearts and courage. And all other services as well.
When I saw the young female Sargent had just posted a picture of herself helping children
with the words I LOVE MY JOB! a tear came to my old eye.
Thank you for posting this.

Shocking that so many were local men. This doubly makes it felt. I am so sorry for their families, friends and neighbors.

So sad so many have died and nothing has changed. When will we ever learn from our mistakes? V

so many locals struck down really brings home the human cost of involvement in Afghanistan...the sober scene you show is fitting at this time..
