The City of Rochester (NY) has decided to destroy a homeless encampment. The homeless continue to be driven out of various places across the city. Shelter beds are limited and programs are difficult to get into, especially for people with mental health and substance abuse issues. I am not sure what the answer is, but clearing away people's tents and belongings is cruel and unjust. Here a man is trying to gather up his things while the police stand by.

I agree that it is, for the time being anyway, a seemingly unsolvable problem. At least until there is the political will to come up with more housing for these people, along with mental health and rehab programs for them. Very hard hitting image. ~BV~

So powerful and sad. Stellar photo journalism that asks the question is homelessness viewed as a problem that people care about, or is it a problem only when it is highly visible. This speaks to our priorities as a nation and so far the answer does not look good.

Sad documentation. The richest country on Earth can't provide help for its' citizens.

So sad, especially seeing they don't have places and programs they can put these people into. An excellent documentary shot. V

By doing this you push them even further away from a solution.

Excellent photo V! Societies trash, the money wasted on sweeping them away should be put to helping them get off the streets.

A pertinent piece of photojournalism. The problem addressed here is so widespread now and there appears to be no good solutions.

Here homelessness is a major problem. A lot of money is being spent, but to no avail.

a tough situation for those in dire straits...the same happens here, and the homeless are continually pushed around the city from camp to camp...well done to catch the moment of interaction..

How very sad, and I have to wonder where these people can go if encampments are destroyed. Perfect timing and position to catch the man looking out at the police. V.

Sad. But it makes for compelling photojournalism. V
