In or about 1950, television came to our house in Quincy. As I remember, at first we could watch only stations from St. Louis. It was not too long until Quincy had two of its own tv stations. This sketch by my father demonstrates what some of those contemporary tv sets were like. The image on the screen tells a story. Early in the years of Quincy television, Walt Waggoner was commissioned to create signs such as this for one or both of the stations. Back then, it was not unusual for some technical or other glitch to cause an interruption in program transmission. This is the way the station communicated with the viewers. I remember telling my friends that my father was famous!
