Ca LŽArnau

Joan Arnau Majoral built this Art Nouveau house as a family home in 1914. The villa, currently known by the name of Ca l’Arnau, used to be called the house of the Holy Christ. According to tradition, an image of the Holy Christ had been found in the house and later transferred to the parish church. Over time, the house passed into the hands of newer family generations of Arnau until the last owners, Pere Puig and Neus Ros, sold it to the Town Council. In 1999 the building was completely refurbished to turn it into the Municipal Music School. It currently houses some municipal department. The villa, which was built on a 16.50 m by 52 m plot, has a rectangular floor plan and currently measures 18.20 m by 8.5 m. The house was designed by the Art Nouveau architect Joan Amigó i Barriga, who was the municipal architect of Badalona. Some of the elements that stand out are the curved lines and the shape of the building, the stucco mouldings, the cornice on the walls, sgraffito and decorative plant motifs on stone, glazed ceramics, as well as the corbels and beams that support the roof.
