Old Man River

New Hampshire has just experienced the rainiest July and second wettest month in recorded state history.
This is from a bridge over the Ashuelot (ash-whee-lot) River, about a mile downstream from my house.
The river is far exceeding its usual modest summer level.
Seven miles upstream from here the dam on 368 acre Ashuelot Pond was in imminent danger of being breached today.
Had that happened I would not be standing on this bridge making this image because this bridge would not be here.
Fortunately we were not affected by the evacuations and, oddly enough, I had a pretty normal Friday.
Mercifully, the situation has stabilized and the danger appears to have passed for now.

A great image of volatile water. So glad the danger subsided.

Yes, it has been wet in New England. The last time were up in the Berkshires the woods were very soggy!

The river is clearly hugely swollen and violent. Glad it's all water under the bridge now.

What a powerful image!
Stay safe and hopefully the situation improves soon.

We, on the other hand, would give a king's ransom for some rain. :-(

Frightening narrative and a great capture of this raging river. I'm glad to hear you're all safe, hopefully not just for now.

the river does appear to be in full spate...good you are safe, as floods have been a problem more often this year with all the wacky weather..

This is a frightening raging river I can't imagine if you had to leave with family, horses, and your dog. Plan ahead, Kevin.
