1930's Walt Waggoner

6070

In the 1930's, Walt E. Waggoner lived in both of the two largest cities (then) in America. Did the tall buildings influence this drawing? Obviously, on the farm he hadn't worried about heavy objects falling from the sky. Due to the painstaking care with which he created this cartoon in ink, Walt had probably included this in his portfolio as he sought work. Like many of his sketches, this one does not provoke laughs as much as it presents commentary on how ridiculous we can sometimes behave. What would your reaction be if you were blind and someone shouted to "look out?" Note that he signed this as W. W. I find it interesting that, through the years, he seemed to struggle with how he wanted to identify himself as the creator of his art.
