Ringo’s Camera

I gave Ringo a call and asked him if he was still using the Spotmatic that he used in
“A Hard Day’s Night.” He said he wasn’t, and he sent it off to me. What a nice guy!

I think this half century old camera is really handsome. I’ve run a couple of rolls of film
through it and it works perfectly. The 50mm 1.4 Super Takumar lens is considered to be one
of the best old manual fifties, however it is very “hot”, i.e., it is one of the most radioactive
lenses ever put on the market. From everything I’ve read it is not particularly dangerous to
use; just don’t sleep with it under your pillow. If you are worried about using this lens,
then to be consistent you should not fly on commercial jets.

I bought an M42 adapter for my Z6, so soon I’ll try this lens out on the Z6. I’ve read that
radioactivity can theoretically damage sensors, so to be on the safe side I won’t store the
lens on the camera.

Great condition! I've known quite a few folks who owned Spotmatics in the past
and to a person they wish they still had them.

What fascinating information!
Great image here and I cannot wait to see the results of that lens/calmera combination.

What a classic so well photographed...I had one years ago and this really brings me back. Too hot for me to handle. V

Perfectly and dramatically illuminated and perfectly captured picture of this iconic gem. I have also purchased an M42 to Nikon adapter and M42 to MFT for my so far single Pentax screw mount lens which is a Russian Helios 44M-4. I also bought a Nikon to MFT adapter. I hope you post some images with this lens on your Nikon. ~BV~

I am envious. My first SLR camera was a Pentax Spotmatic. I can not recall what lens I had on it. In those days, I usually had the kit lens. Unfortunately it got waterlogged in a canoeing accident and was un-repairable. My next camera was a Nixon, which I had for fifteen years and then I dropped it into the ocean at Perce Rock in New Brunswick. V

it does look spiffy...many of us have a Pentax in the closet, as they were cheap and widely available....cool yours works...the lens sounds a hot one for sure..
