There are a handful of my father's cartoons that I have questioned posting. This is one. As a strong advocate of women's rights, I find this message unfunny. Or, at least my first reaction was negative. Then I reflected upon what typical family life was for my father in the 1940's. My judgement of my father softened. However, I then thought about all of the women during the war years. Many were juggling raising a family alone while going off to work to do the jobs of all of the men that were away to war. Then and now, the gender roles in this cartoon could easily be reversed. As a last note, I know that my father respected women, and especially my mother. I do not recall even one time that he did not. With that in mind, I decided to post this for what it is; a treasure from my father to be remembered.
