It's Been a Long, Long Time

Galveston Island, Texas

We went into Galveston for dinner and the Bon Voyage party for the Vista, on the wharf tonight.
Complete with flags, dignitaries and the press, we watched the first ship from the cruise line to sail from a U.S. port in more than 15 months.
Carnival Vista was departing the Port of Galveston for a weeklong cruise to Mahogany Bay, Honduras; Cozumel, Mexico; and Belize City, Belize.
In order to board, Carnival Cruise passengers must be fully vaccinated for Covid, 14 days ahead of embarkation.
We aren't too fond of cruising, but we recognize the industry is HUGE for our economy, so we were happy to see them off. (and watch the fireboats)
Carnival Vista, Carnival Breeze and Carnival Dream operate 150 voyages annually from Galveston, carrying an estimated 750,000 passengers a year.

Mass tourism that doesn't appeal to me. But the image is fantastic! V

I agree - better to photograph than be aboard - I'd be so bored on such a vessel!

Never did a cruise, but I am constantly amazed at the size of those liners.

A preferred type of vacation for some. We went on one and enjoyed it years ago, but not ready to climb aboard again just yet.

Cruise ships are very significant for the British Columbia economy as well, but the long term impact of this industry on the planet is not good.

Great to see things starting to get back to normal...it has been very rough for the travel industry. I hope all goes well.
Nice shot with the tug and to illustrate the immensity of this ship. v

What a shot!! Great for the song title in so many ways! I personally can't stand the thought of being on a cruise ship, but I know many love it. V

well done to underscore it's immense size...yes an economic driver for some port cities, so positive news for some people..

Cool shot with the police boat and tugs. Hopefully enough passengers are immunized. "V"

Something to see I'm sure, but not for me. Nice capture of the festivities.
