This young dog, female, 18 months, spent most of her young life way up in northern Ontario, came south to find a new home. Just after the long flight and drive, she gave birth to 5 puppies, her second litter in a short time. Then she developed a severe infection on her ovaries which, had the rescue not been vigilant, would have killed her. She is much smaller than my late, much missed Sasha, only 50 pounds, and is a mix of German Shepherd and...? Maybe husky. She is sweet, quiet, has no issue with cats, and apparently loves them as well as dogs and kids. I was hoping to find another long-haired shepherd but checking all the rescue sites almost daily for a long time, aided by friends who were also looking for a rescue shepherd for me, yielded no shepherds, and only a few mixed breeds like this one, none of whom were deemed safe with cats. This little sweetie came up to me yesterday at the rescue, put her paw on my arm and looked at me with her big brown eyes, and so while initially I was going to say no, and wait for a big shepherd, I said yes!

She is named Enola (alone spelled backwards) because apparently she was much alone up north, though provisionally owned by someone who could not really look after her. I am trying to think of a new name and have tentatively settled on Cleo, but we'll see.
