Tucked

When outside sunning, Bailey will often tuck her little face to block out the bright sun.

Years ago, we unsuccessfully tried to get the Chihuahuas to use a "doggy door" to go in & out of the Solar Room. I actually "won" a very expensive one set in a glass panel to be used with a sliding patio door. By "won", I mean our AKC Kennel Club (of which we were charter members)had one in the raffle they had in conjunction to their AKC point dog show. Not a lot of people had dogs small enough to fit through the Chihuahua sized opening.

But when we installed the glass panel, the dogs absolutely refused to even try to learn to use the "flap" that would allow them to go in & out. At the time, we had some of the top winning Obedience show dogs (of all breeds) in the country. So the dogs weren't too dumb to learn to use the doggy door. They just didn't want to. In the end, they won. We took the glass panel and doggy door out. The humans in the family once again became the official door openers.

These days (since the pandemic started in early March 2020 & my husband started to work remotely from home), DH now leaves both the door between the kitchen & Solar Room and the door between the Solar Room open a Chihuahua-sized crack for the girls to freely go in & out (usually to sunbathe in nice weather) whenever they want.

I keep all the doors closed, but he likes to give the dogs more freedom to do whatever they want. Meanwhile, when I have the screen door between outside and the Solar Room closed, little 3 pound Bailey still does what she wants. She has learned how to somehow open the screen door on her own. The other two girls can't. They also can't squeeze through an opening as small as contortionist Bailey can.

The door is open (like my husband likes) in the above photo.
