Luxembourg became an independent country in 1839 as concluded by the Treaty of London.
A column was erected to celebrate the centenary of this declaration.
A little while later the German occupiers destroyed the monument.
This new monument was put up after the end of World War II
to commemorate the country's independance and also the sufferings endured during the war.
