It was a quick trip this morning to St. Simon's island to visit Fort Frederica, established in about 1740 by William Oglethorpe. There was a battle with the Spanish from Jacksonville on July 7, 1742 which the British won and established British rule for Georgia. The fort itself is an interesting archaeological site. There were foundations of several buildings which gave a good idea of the layout of the site.
Then it was on to Jekyll Island and a tram tour of the famous Jekyll Island club. We visited the Faith Chapel which contains a rare signed Tiffany window. Jekyll Island was where the idea of the Federal Reserve was developed. All the northern rich guys stayed here in the winter.
