Northern Hairstreak caterpillars

Jalmenus eichhorni, Lycaenidae
Laura, Queensland, Australia
The Northern Hairstreak will only lay its eggs on the right food plant (several species of Acacia) AND if the right ants are present.
The ants attend and protect the caterpillars (larvae) and coccoons (pupae). I imagine the ants get sweet secretions as reward.

Thanks for the info and the great photo. At first I thought it was going to be a bad story for the caterpillars.
