15th - Lane

near Rencomb, Glos. view map

Looking north along The Whiteway between Cirencester and Chedworth. The Whiteway is an old Roman road which was used to service a number of Roman villas in this part of the county.
It's also possible that it predates Roman times and could be an old salt route too (hence 'white'), an alternative track to the better known Saltway which also runs across this part of Gloucestershire.

If it's straight then it must be Roman...they certainly knew how to do it...I think many of ours here were built by drunken sailors :)
