CURRENT EVENTS

The grim horse race that is the U.S. COVID-19 pandemic has been reduced to a contest between two tenacious coronavirus strains: a variant native to California and an import from the United Kingdom. Both versions of the virus have scientists and health officials on edge because they spread more readily than their predecessors and seem to be less vulnerable to some of the medicines used to treat COVID-19. The California strain has also shown signs of resistance to the current crop of COVID-19 vaccines.

“Kansas residents struggle to secure vaccine appointment as state prepares to move to next phases. People in Kansas’ Phase 2 of the vaccine distribution plan are worried opening eligibility to more people could make it even harder for them to get a vaccine appointment. Monday, March 22, the state will open eligibility to phases 3 and 4 of its plan.

“The pandemic has taken down almost all major St. Patrick’s Day events for the second consecutive year. But not all… The city of Leavenworth, Kansas put on its 38th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade proceeded in downtown, with a noon start on March 17. Leavenworth is part of the Kansas City Greater Metro area.”

“Two types of mouthwash disrupt SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, preventing it from replicating in a human cell, a new study suggests. Listerine and Chlorhexidine disrupted the virus with little impact on skin cells inside the mouth that provide a protective barrier against the virus. Further studies are needed to test real-life efficacy in humans.”

Corned Beef and Cabbage for Dinner.

Of course!!!
A tradition for us on St Patrick’s Day since the year we first got married.

Wish I’d had a Guinness to go with dinner. Maybe next year. Because I prefer beer on tap, I only drink beer when out; not at home. So I haven’t had a beer in a year now. However, I really do like my Guinness when I can get it. I learned to like it in Ireland.

Glad you enjoyed your traditional dinner. Since we've given up eating meat, we had to settle for fish pie. Hubby got his cans of Guinness.
No parades or public celebrations in Ireland for a second year, but plenty of online events.
