Mushroom Rock Formations, The Needles In Canyonlands

Canyonlands, Utah

A photographer could spend years photographing Canyonlands in Utah and still not capture all the moods and seasons of this place. Plus there are never enough early mornings or evenings when traveling to these locations so sometimes mid day is the lighting you have to work with. This image was taken mid morning with totally clear skies as can be seen in this capture. I wonder what it would be like to have the time and be able to afford to stay long enough to attempt to capture some of the spirit of a place like this?

Nature did her work and decided to stop when she saw this .
You saw it as well a magnificent rock formation captured in beautiful light .

A case study in why there is no such thing as bad light. Using monochrome like you did here is a great way to compensate for harsh lighting. Love the shadows and tones.

a memorable image that certainly catches the flavour of the location...yes, plain skies and harsh sunshine are always a challenge to deal with...you coped well here and ariculated the scene with just the right touch...V

The brilliance from the position of the sun adds to the view. Mono was a good choice. "VV"
