The setting sun provides a dramatic backdrop to the Toro Nagashi

Toro Nagashi, a Japanese Buddhist ceremony honoring all the spirits of the dead.
Floating lanterns are released to carry the spirits of the departed from the shores of suffering to the shores of happiness.
