We headed into town to get our second vaccination. It is about 26 miles from our house to the facility. Ginny figured that as long as we are down town we might as well have a visit to the Houston Museum of Natural History. We are members there. This is the organization that is organizing a tour of Egypt which we hope to attend later in the year. We met up with the coordinator who was manning an information booth. Ginny had talked to her on the phone quite a bit and this was the opportunity meet in person. She was very nice and gave us a free pass to all the special exhibitions which required an entry fee.

The big deal today was the the Pompeii exhibit was opening for the first time. Normal entry fee is $30, which is a lot of money. Our pass got us in, and we went through the whole thing. It was interesting, but certainly not $30 interesting. We also saw the butterflies which is a paid exhibit. After some lunch we did what we had come for, the Egypt collection. It was very nice and well done. Our last stop was the oil production exhibit.

One of the problems with the museum is that they have turned off all the touch screens. That means that many exhibits don't have descriptions. It makes it a little hard to look at stuff when you don't have a clue what it is. In the Faberge collection, all the descriptions are electronic so that turned out to be somewhat of a dud.

The good thing is that this was the first "outing" we have had since all this coronavirus stuff started. It was good to get back into the groove. There is still quite a bit to see at the museum so a return trip is warranted.

looks like a great idea to visit the exhibition there.
