A lens released in 1967, one of the first to feature Nikon's Close Focus Correction (CRC) system.
Modern lenses may test somewhat better photographing test charts but can hardly do better when it comes to rendering beauty!
All of my Pentax, Nikkor or Leitz vintage lenses are nonpareil....
