Another 8 or 9 Months

Maybe

“Biden administration promises to have enough coronavirus vaccine for all Americans by the end of summer.” CNN

Monday, I wrote about the bad situation that our area is experiencing vaccination wise. After 10 ½ months of “Safer-at-Home” social isolation, a possible another 8 or 9 months of this seems like such a very, very, very long time. I so miss having a normal life. I miss it more and more so; as each day now passes. But if it is necessary to stay alive and have a future life, so be it. Putting life on pause for a year or two is worth having another 30 or 40 years of life to enjoy.

Still, it’s been increasingly difficult to stay optimist about the future.
Once all Americans (of those who are willing) can get vaccinated, then what? Vaccinating Americans alone won’t make COVID go away. So I question if there will ever really be such a thing as a world “normal” again like we once knew it? To eradicate this horrible disease, the whole world needs to be properly vaccinated against whatever new COVID mutation pops up.

Whatever happens in any one country or state or town anywhere in the world is only as far away from the rest of us as just one single traveler makes it. As we have seen one case of a mysterious, new virus in China has led to massive deaths worldwide; with the USA having the greatest percentage of all…by far. We all (everywhere in the world) now need to be protected (vaccinations, masks, etc) to keep everyone else (everywhere in the world) protected. If everyone isn't "safe". none of really will be. We all need to at least practice proper health procedures to avoid becoming a virus host that enables this virus to mutate. Even with vaccines, we’re all just a blink away from some mutation that could once again run totally amuck through the world’s populations. So we must stop the existence of COVID by taking away all of its hosts; yet keep mankind alive.

In the USA, there currently seems to be a fairly large reluctance to practice preventative health measures. Rather than a life or death matter (which a pandemic is), COVID has become a political divide. That makes it difficult to control the virus here at home; let alone try to look at the big picture of what is happening with the entire world. On top of that, we also have vaccination deniers that could hamper the US reaching vaccine induced “herd immunity” from the current strains of COVID. On top of everything else, there are the nationalists who don’t understand that everything is now global. You can’t totally seal off any country away from the rest of the world. Despite the wishes and chatter of the unaware, all of us “in this” together.

Anyhow, another 8 months or so wait(on top of what we’ve already gone through) for vaccination is going to be increasingly difficult for me personally. I can do it if necessary. However, I pray that there really is light at the end of this tunnel. I can’t begin to imagine having to continue this way forever; even after getting a future vaccination.

Hopefully, the current vaccines available (or soon to become available) will also be effective as more new COVID mutations rapidly evolve around the world. The longer it takes to get the entire World vaccinated, the more opportunity COVID has to mutate enough to make vaccines and therapeutics ineffective. So we are all in a race for the future of mankind.

A lot of the world’s future – because of a virus few people knew about just one year ago – remains uncertain. Hopefully, things really will look a lot better 8 or 9 months from now.

Today’s photo is a photo shot today in passing. Nothing special… No relationship to my words. Just a quick snap of some sad indoor plants. As a side note, I’ve lost about half of my house plants since the pandemic started. Others (like the ones in the photo) don’t look so great. Beyond maybe being symbolic of the world situation, I cannot connect my plant woes to coronavirus.

I think we are all growing weary. I am having similar conversations with friends here in Ireland and we too
face problems with our health care, with vaccination roll out , as well as a vocal anti science brigade on social media.

Brighter days will come. I agree it is playing
on majority of people.

I think many of us are thinking what you are. This period seems interminable. Like you, I hope we come through the other side and resume something of a "normal" life. Meantime, I think your cactus looks good and has even produced a flower, so it must be happy! V
