The best laid plans....

This time last year I was beginning to plan a holiday to Italy.
How little I knew that within a few months foreign travel would be a thing of the past.
As I researched flights and accommodation, I was also keeping an eye on reports of a new virus in China, so luckily didn't book anything.

Yep, it's local holidays for me too this year, that is assuming they're not cancelled (again!). I'm with Walter though reading a travel book is a good substitute

I'd love to travel anywhere! Since I can not physically do it, I look at books and documentaries.

We had already booked a trip to Italy for last June but had to cancel with heavy hearts. However, plans are only postponed, so hopefully you can plan again for later this year.

you have lots of time to study your Rome map before the chance to travel returns...one can certainly empathize with your frustration...cancelled several planned trips to the Excited States, and have no idea when it will be safe to go there again..

Such a pity, but good you didn't book anything. I'm sure you'll be able to go at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Just yesterday the word came down from on high here that we should forget about foreign travel this year, and possibly as long as 18 months. Part of the reason is that our vaccination plan will see the first two groups - health care workers and aged care residents - get the Pfizer vaccine, but most of the rest of the country will get the AstraZenica one. The latter may / should / will hopefully stop you from getting seriously ill but won't stop you from spreading it, so the places that you get to need to be immunised too. A friend in Italia said that the current plan is to have the population fully vaccinated by September, though that doesn't have to slip far to see us entering winter. I don't think we have a definite end date for our plan yet (the detailed timelines are for stages 1 and 2 so far), but either way, no Europe trips this year.

That's not going to stop me from planning, though. Your body may not be able to travel, but your mind still can.
