I went out to the range today to get some velocities on a new load for my .44 magnum. After a few rounds, I saw stuff come flying off the pistol. It was the ejector housing, spring and rod. I found them on the ground beside me. No problem. But wait, there is also a screw that holds the ejector in place. I looked all over for it. In front of the shooting bench there is astro turf grass which is pretty deep. I looked all over but certainly couldn't see it. Then the light came on in the attic. The club has a magnet which they use to police up steel shell casings. The missing screw is magnetic, so I gave it a try. Sure enough it picked up the screw. Talk about luck. I looked around and saw the peasants rejoicing. Life is good.

Now days if you use a
magnet you get tons of
steel casings.

I always carry a Sea Searcher magnet in my van.
Every time I went to the club I dragged it about in the sweepings on the ranges.
If the club held a large competition on a weekend, shooters came from all over England.
Monday morning, I walked up and down the lines on the grass where hundreds of shooters had stood.
Over the years I had a huge collection of screws, springs, sights, and anything metal that was likely to fall off of a gun.
I repaired lots of guns for friends using my collection of parts.
