For some time now, I have been fascinated by this huge bird. It can seem ungainly on land but so graceful in flight. And with that six foot wingspan the heron can catch the updrafts and glide a good distance. What is so amazing to me is that it can stand up to four feel tall with those long legs, that long neck and large body, yet weigh only about five lbs. Another interesting feature of the heron can be seen in the photo, knees that bend backwards to ours! Also, the GBH can swallow large fish or even rodents as the neck expands to the size of the prey.
An amazing creature, one of many wonders in the natural world that fill us with admiration for the Source of all wisdom, our Creator!
