1953 Cooper Porsche "Pooper"

The 1953 Cooper Formula 3 which had a single cylinder
500 cc motorcycle engine and was a very popular racing class in the
early 1950's. The 500 cc motorcycle engine just wasn't enough grunt for
American racers. Various racers including Ken Miles installed a
Porsche engine and added full body work and they had a sports car.
Porsche got a little peeved because the Pooper's turned out to be
faster than the then current racing Porsche Spyder's.
This is an amazing little car and very fast.

Fascinating! I never had heard of any of that before. I bet they could have come up with a better name than "Pooper" though. Excellent image of this beautiful bit of history. ~BV~
