This is a statue of Sam Houston, one of my favorite figures of Texas history.

He lived with the Cherokee Indians for about 6 years (about 3 as a teenager and 3 as an adult

in his early forties). And he walked around in Cherokee garb sometimes.

He was also the 1st president of the Republic of Texas.
