You probably think this is going to be about bacon and you are right. I got the urge this evening to have some bacon. That is a commodity we always have on hand. So I went into the kitchen, pulled out a pan and some parchment paper, pre-heated the oven to 400F and put it in to cook. It takes about 15-20 minutes depending on the thickness.

While I was waiting around I got to thinking about cooking methods. I am always in favor of using an iron skillet on the stove. That method got nixed by Ginny because she said it spattered too much grease. I admit that if I am cooking some chopped bacon for an omelet or a frittata, I use a pan, but very carefully so as not to get in trouble with the boss. For a while I would put it in the microwave between sheets of paper towels. There were two draw-backs to that method. First, the bacon wouldn't cook evenly. Second, the bacon would stick to the paper towels. I can't remember when I migrated to the oven method, but it has been quite a while. It works well and I don't make a mess.

So, you are asking why did I need eight pieces of bacon? Its simple. If I ask Ginny if she wants some bacon she will often reply that it is the wrong time of day and she really doesn't want to eat anything. So the average guy would just make the amount he wanted and call it good. But in the 46 years we have been married, I have learned how the game works, so I always make a bunch of extra bacon. Tonight was no exception. I was sitting in front of the TV munching bacon when Ginny asked if she could have a piece. Sure help yourself. and another and another. So we were all happy. And I didn't make a mess.
