Bald Island Marlock (Eucalyptus conferruminata)

the strangest of eucalypts
These are flower bud clusters. Most unusually, the buds in a single cluster (an umbel) are joined at the base.
The banana-like structures, which are about the size of my little finger, are the caps to individual buds. These will be shed to open the flower and reveal the showy stamens.
Bald Island Marlock is a multi-stemmed small tree or large shrub found only in a small area of the south coast of Western Australia and adjacent islands.

Your Australian flora is bizarre (in a good sense) and wonderful and absolutely fascinating. Who'd have known what those banana like protrusions were. V
