Elder 9" x 7.5"

Our ancient friend, the Turtle. I was driving on rt. 68 getting off at Cheat Lake exit when I saw a Box Turtle making it's way across the road. This cannot be good for the turtle. I decided to stop and help the fella out. I've been told it is important to just take a turtle across the road so it can keep on it's path. Unfortunately where the road loops around to the on ramp, It would have come to another busy road within a short walk so I decided to just take it with us and leave it in a safe place closer to home. Having that turtle with us in the car, we could see all it's beauty and intricate patterns. This box turtle made me think of all the wonderful native American stories based around turtle. It made me think of how old life has been here in this place we call home. I want to show it respect by giving it the name "Elder".
