Yes, there really is a Surf, California. While working in the produce industry back in the 70's I used to take bill of ladings to a Southern Pacific Railroad office there. It was a small office with an elderly employee working there and that was how we got railcars delivered to our cold storage facility in Lompoc.

The office is gone now, as is the Southern Pacific Railroad, but there is now an Amtrak Railroad station for the Surfliner trains.
