Ginger Plants

I am really enjoying my ginger plants, especially since I read that supermarket ginger is treated with a growth retardant and they might not even sprout.

They're quite decorative and are enjoying their new spot in front of the west-facing sliding door which gets actually very few hours of sun a day. It reminds me of bamboo.

I'm told that they will die down, only to sprout next spring, and I shouldn't worry that they are dead. What an adventure.

One more thing: They are planted in Miracle Gro Potting Mix which promptly started hatching fungus gnats, which I'm told is common with Miracle Gro. I sprayed the soil with Neem (diluted, of course) and the gnats went away. I was concerned that the tubers would be dangerous to eat because of the Neem, but it is a biological product that works on the gnat eggs and it's harmless to people. https://donotdisturbgardening.com/is-neem-oil-safe-for.../

How interesting. The plant really does look like a type of bamboo. Super shot too.
