View from the Canal Boat

Falkirk, Scotland

Perhaps you can see why I called this the most relaxing week
of my entire life. Paul and I took turns sitting at the stern
with one hand on the tiller and the other near the speed
control, while our wives sat and chatted in the bow.

Paul's wife and my wife were coworkers for many years. It was just the four of us on board. We had to do everything ourselves, including daily maintenance checks, refilling the water tank, starting and operating the engine, steering, mooring, and unmooring. We were able to visit grocery stores and pubs by mooring next to the access paths. I was amazed what the two ladies were able to do with the small kitchen and the proceeds of the grocery store runs. There was no WIFI on the canal itself, but there was at every pub or restaurant we visited. I still recall the view that the locals had: four pints on the table and four Americans using their cell phones.

Do you operate this ship entirely on your own or is there a pilot from the agency onboard with you? Paul (the other Paul)
